Position Description: The Registered Operating Room Nurse provides professional nursing care to surgical patients in accordance with their individual needs, physician orders, hospital policy and standards of professional nursing practice. Demonstrates effective nursing judgment and a working knowledge of the nursing process.
Maintains established departmental/hospital policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards, and provides guidance to interdisciplinary team members by supervising nursing interventions and assisting with related tasks. Adheres to the Nurse Practice Act, patient bill of rights, and the requirements of regulatory agencies. Applies clinical knowledge and expertise for coordinating patient care in the surgical setting by regularly planning and evaluating the care of surgical patients. Provides instrumentation, equipment and supplies appropriate to the surgical procedure and assures their safe use.
Implements, monitors and maintains aseptic technique standards in all aspects of surgical intervention, including correct disposal of solutions, trash and linen. Responsible with scrub person for proper cleaning procedures at completion of the surgical intervention including correct disposal of solutions, trash and linen. Responsible for identification and preservation of the surgical specimen and assuring recording and sending to pathology.
Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as an OR RN highly preferred. One year of Medical Surgical experience required.
Current State of California RN license
BSN (required within 36 months of hire)
Current BLS and ACLS and PALS certification from AHA
