CENTRAL STERILE TECHNICIAN
Natividad is currently seeking a full-time Central Sterile Technician. The incumbent will be responsible for medical equipment sterilization and the proper care and storage of medical equipment used for patient care. This position does not provide direct patient care.
Decontaminates, processes and assembles instruments, equipment and instrument trays in accordance with established policies and procedures
Follows infection control procedures to maintain asepsis and minimize the hazards of cross contamination
Prepares and issues emergency case carts, supplies, equipment and instruments on demand
Checks amount and condition of materials and equipment on hand and reports inadequate inventories and defective materials; checks for outdated supplies
Assists with maintaining a clean work environment by cleaning counters, sinks and reprocessing equipment, according to predetermined schedules, with approved cleaning and disinfecting agents in the operating rooms as needed
Maintains records and documents usage, losses and outdated supplies
Possession of a valid CPR certificate is required and must be obtained prior to start of employment
One year of experience in a hospital central sterile unit which included the assembly of medical procedure trays and operation of medical sterilization equipment OR completion of a formal training program covering such subjects
Working knowledge of Asepsis technique and infection control procedures; methods, procedures and techniques in the decontamination, preparation and sterilization of medical supplies, instruments and equipment used in a large medical facility; hospital procedures and medical terminology; and basic inventory control and record keeping
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures; work effectively in emergency situations; operate medical sterilization equipment according to strict standards; communicate clearly; and keep accurate records
Completion of Central Sterile online course with certification by IAHCSMM is highly desirable
