The Division of Behavioral Health Services in the New Jersey Department of Health is seeking an Infection Preventionist with a Certification in Infection Control (CIC) and long-term care experience to oversee the surveillance and response to infections associated with the state psychiatric hospital setting. This individual will provide guidance and resources to support the state psychiatric hospitals for the protection of patients, staff and visitors, as well as serve as the Infection Control Coordinator and oversee the response to outbreaks of COVID-19 in our state psychiatric hospitals.
Oversee the state psychiatric hospital Infection Preventionists and data “managers” as they work to identify outbreaks in our state psychiatric hospitals and connect with staff at these facilities to understand the circumstances of the outbreak.
Work with the Department of Health and other state agencies to procure resources such as personal protective equipment and temporary staffing for the hospitals when necessary.
Conduct site visits for hospitals experiencing outbreaks, report your findings and work with the Infection Preventionists to identify site-specific guidance.
Develop guidance documents, conduct trainings, develop surveys and lead conference calls and focus groups to develop a clear and consistent line of communication with the state psychiatric hospitals.
Work with the State and local county health departments to develop a cohesive plan for tracking outbreaks and sharing information.
Validate and maintain all data for accuracy and data reliability.
Work with the hospital infection preventionists to detect disease in our hospitals and work with the State’s epidemiologists to share data on outbreaks within our state psychiatric hospitals.
Assist hospital Infection Preventionists with interpreting and implementing the Infection Prevention standards of care recommended by governmental and accrediting agencies.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related healthcare field
Experience in conducting infection control audits and infection control or related training and education for healthcare professionals
Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
Certification in Long-Term Care (CLTC)
Excellent English language skills, including composition, grammar and public speaking
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Enthusiasm for teamwork and interdisciplinary, hands-on work in healthcare settings
Able to work independently and in teams to establish and convene meetings, prepare summary reports and present findings
A Master’s degree in public health or related field
Training and/or experience in applied epidemiology and statistical analysis
This position reports directly to the Director of Quality Assurance.
Compensation is hourly and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
