Performs all duties of a Medical Technologist in the section/shift to which the individual is assigned. In the absence of the section/shift supervisor, performs additional supervisory duties; accepts full responsibility for the respective section/shift production of accurate, timely laboratory results. Updates procedures manual, checks quality control of each procedure and of each shift. Oversees the performance of other employees, checks linearities, statistics, send data to be evaluated and to be compared with other laboratories. Performs and/or review the CAP surveys of the section. Maintains required standards of accreditation. Assists laboratory administration with troubleshooting C.Q.I. incidents, arranging staff coverage, etc.
Assist with the development, building, implementation and ongoing maintenance of all aspects of laboratory-related applications, clinical information systems, and computerized laboratory systems, software and hardware. Supports resolution of all general computer related issues within the laboratory department. Represents laboratory on all IS related hospital transactions. Provides resource for planning additional laboratory information technology projects. Oversees Point-of-Care program and demonstrates commitment and accountability for implementation, communications, and monitoring of the Compliance Program.Dedicated to meeting the expectations of the internal and external customers. Works with customers to identify areas of concern and to recommend appropriate solutions. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director.
Required: Successful completion of a Bachelor in Science in an accredited college or university with a chemical, physical or biological science as a major subject and at least 12 months of training in a clinical laboratory of a hospital accredited by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or a B.S. in Medical Technology, or an A.A. in Medical Laboratory Science with a full semester of Hospital Training.
Required: Minimum of 2 years as a medical technologist in acute care facility with demonstration of increasing responsibilities in all specialties.
Ability to perform and to teach students in the threshold and practical aspect of all procedures of the department. Knowledge and understanding of the work flow in the laboratory. Manual dexterity.
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in the English language
Competent in personal computer programs, especially Microsoft office applications and other project management software
Progressively responsible experience in laboratory and computer applications of laboratory practice, including implementation and development of new systems and laboratory education
Excellent interpersonal skills
Required: Registered with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS). Florida Medical Technologist Licensure, in all specialties.
