Under general supervision of aRadiologist, the Mammography Technologist performs mammography procedures onambulatory and hospital patients in a physician office, clinic, or hospitalsetting as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for thediagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols. The MammographyTechnologist performs high quality mammography procedures, according to examprotocol, in a timely manner. The Mammography Technologist maintainsproduction and quality of imaging procedures by following established standardsand procedures.
The Mammography Technologist jobduties include, but are not limited to:
UtilizesAIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient servicerequirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, andestablish rapport with patients and others.
Instructs/communicateswith patient and/or patient's family regarding the test to be performed andassesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.
Preparespatient or area for mammography procedure by positioning patient, adjustingimmobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjustingequipment controls to set exposure factors.
Protectspatients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control,drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses propersterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive mammographyprocedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
Workswith engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities ofequipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department.
Obtains,verifies and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart,patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consentforms, etc.
Assistsleadership in maintaining all required policies, procedures, standards andrecords for applicable governmental, regulatory and accrediting organizationsby complying with procedures, rules, and regulations of the OSHA, TJC, TDH andACR.
Actsas a Preceptor by providing training to new team members and on new servicesand initiatives.
The ideal candidate for the MammographyTechnologist role will be able to perform high quality mammography proceduresaccording to exam protocol in a timely manner. The ideal candidate for the MammographyTechnologist role will also be able to ensure customer satisfaction by limitingwait times, providing courteous service, remaining professional, reviewingPress Ganey scores and developing action plans when required.
