Serves as a member of the NPSC Quarterly Committee reporting on safety and infection control topics.
Chairs the OAL Safety Committee and the OAL Wellness Committee.
Acts as the OAL / NPSC Workers Compensation Coordinator for OAL employees.
Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards, and legal requirements.
Conducts a health screening and brief physical assessment of all personnel upon hire including a health history and current immunizations and/or required titers.
Refers personnel with identified limitations or health risks to appropriate resources.
Promotes and fosters a healthy environment with incentives and educational materials (e.g., a stop-smoking clinic).
Conducts surveillance and follow-up of personnel exposures to communicable diseases in conjunction with the Executive Administer.
Plans, implements, and conducts the annual flu vaccine program for personnel.
Assists the Executive Administer in reporting to CMS the required data points to ensure OAL / NPSC meet all required quality reporting requirements.
Plans and implements other immunization programs as determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and state and federal laws and regulations, to include a hepatitis B immunization program for employees, physicians, and other health care providers.
Plans and implements biannual risk assessment to support TB two set upon hire and then only if exposure.
Receives and confidentially reviews FMLA process associated with personal health information by:
Ensure medical documentation is complete, fulfils the guidelines to recommend approval by CEO;
If necessary, seeks clarification from the provider completing the documentation;
Acts as a Liaison between the employee and their manager on return to work restrictions and timing based on submitted documentation.
Completes required OSHA documentation for personnel including:
Form 301, Illness and Injury Incident Report, when a reportable work-related injury or illness occurs and
Form 300, Log of Work-Related Illnesses and Injuries, for annual reporting of work-related
loss of consciousness,
loss of more than three days’ work,
restricted activity or necessary transfer, and
medical treatment exceeding first aid.
Monitors and tracks personnel illnesses and injuries to identify trends in safety and health issues.
Monitors personnel exposure to hazardous chemicals and performs statutory and non-statutory health surveillance.
Develops a return-to-work strategy after personnel injury or prolonged illness.
Provides initial assessment of personnel injuries and verifies that the proper referrals are made for worker’s compensation evaluation.
Maintains confidential personnel health records.
Provides concise data and tracking of all personnel exposures.
Uses epidemiology and surveillance principles to identify appropriate communicable disease prevention and control methods within the perioperative environment of the facility or health care organization.
Identifies and implements IPC processes related to surveillance, data analysis, and reporting to eliminate potential infection hazards for employees, physicians, other health care providers, patients, and visitors.
Informs and updates all necessary persons about infection prevention and control policies that affect perioperative services.
Assists in the appropriate selection and usage of products and equipment related to cleaning, antiseptics, disinfection and sterilization, and facility or health care organization physical design and construction.
Contributes to IPC programs and services and integrates them with perioperative services and organizational business and clinical goals and objectives with consideration of the populations served and the services provided.
Reviews and updates the perioperative infection prevention program plan annually or sooner as needed.
Verifies that perioperative IPC practices are based on evidence-based literature and guidelines, organizational policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines and accreditation standards, and state and federal statutes.
Required Education/ Licensure/ Certification:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Current registered nurse licensure in state of Pennsylvania
Excellent assessment, communication, and organizational skills
Experience in community or public health
Bachelor’s degree in nursing
Infection Control (CIC) certification
Certified Nurse, Orthopedic (ONC) certification
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Expected to travel between any of the OAL / NPSC locates to conduct meetings, clinics at any OAL / NSPC location, participate in community activities supported by OAL / NPSC
Travel to regional or national education opportunities to maintain / expand knowledge base and skill level.
