Responsible for surveillance and analysis to identify, prevent, and control healthcare associated infections in patients and staff. The preventionist interacts with patients, hospital staff, physicians, and other including community agencies and county health departments. This occurs through department rounds, construction rounds, meetings and referrals. Participates in and presents education to hospital employees regarding infection control and prevention. Has knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements. Monitors adherence to standards and communicates pertinent information to members of the infection control and Safety Committee regularly.
Bachelor`s degree from an accredited School.
Additional education and/or experience in hospital epidemiology, infectious disease and regulatory requirements.
Participation in continuing education programs.
Knowledge of new trends and techniques in Hospital epidemiology, infectious disease and regulatory requirements as well as national, state and community occurrences or threats.
Certification is required, or must attain within one year of eligibility.
DCFS Mandated Reporter Certificate of Completion required.
Maintains good physical and emotional well-being.
Possesses personal qualities such as kindness, sympathy, understanding, respect, good judgment, integrity, loyalty, and sense of humor, and ability to relate effectively to patients and their families and staff.
Evidence of knowledge and ability to use proper channels of communication.
