We are looking for a Infection Prevention Specialist with the Infection Prevention - MV Department at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.
Location: Mission Viejo, CA
Schedule: Full-time 80 Biweekly Hour (Exempt)
Shift: 8 Hour Day Shift
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for daily data collection and surveillance activities; provides consultation and ongoing education related to Infection Prevention and Epidemiology practices to hospital and ambulatory care departments. The Infection Prevention Specialist coordinates activities in concert with the department Sr. Manager in support of the development and implementation of program goals and design elements, the formulation of surveillance systems, assessment instruments and intervention strategies; the preparation and enforcement of policies and procedures, the analysis and evaluation of healthcare-associated quantitative data and descriptive information, the development of monitoring functions for the hospital environment for the potential risk of acquiring and transmitting epidemiologically significant microorganisms; compliance with accreditation regulatory codes and standards. The Infection Prevention Specialist works independently and requires limited supervision. Conducts and investigates outbreaks and report findings to the Infection Prevention Committee. The Infection Prevention Specialist implements strategies to meet The Joint Commission (TJC), CDPH and CMS regulations and standards.
Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control, Microbiology, and Performance Improvement.
Interpersonal skills in communicating with all customers.
Ability to identify, assess and implement solutions to problems at point of service.
Ability to abstract information from medical and laboratory records.
Applies statistical analysis and rate basing to summary reports.
Maintenance of databases for infection control and epidemiological data and analyses.
Reviews and abstracts data from hospital databases.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Work, Excel).

Bachelor's Degree Nursing, Clinical Lab Scientist, Medical Technologist, or health care related science degree.
2 years Experience in medical/surgical Nursing, Epidemiology, Microbiology or other related field.
License and Certificate:
Within 2 years of hire:
• Current License in related field (RN, CLS, MT), or • Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
Preferred Position Requirements:
Education: Master's Degree Nursing or related field.
Experience: Infection preventionist experience.
