Associate Director, Infection Control

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in every 25 patients admitted to acute-care hospitals in the United States each year acquire infections that were not related to the condition for which they were hospitalized. Approximately 1.7 million healthcare-associated infections (HAI) occur in U.S. hospitals each year, resulting in 99,000 deaths and an estimated $20 billion in healthcare costs.

Although the precise causes HAIs are difficult to identify, experts believe that about a third could be prevented using current recommendations. The goal of Memorial Sloan Ketterings Infection Control program is to provide the safest healthcare environment for our patients by using evidence-based guidelines to prevent HAIs and to engage in clinical and translational research to further the mission of infection prevention among oncology settings.

We are seeking an Associate Director, Infection Control to co-lead our Infection Control Department. This is an excellent leadership opportunity in a crucial area! Are you who we are looking for?

You will:

• Under the direction of the Director, Infection Control, the Associate Director (AD) will supervise the daily management of the department, including direct responsibility for the Infection Control Surveillance Program and its team members.
• Interact, consult, collaborate, and educate hospital personnel, senior leadership and confer and connect with city and state health departments and other regulatory entities as appropriate.
• Act as back-up to the Director and interact routinely with MSK hospital executive leadership on issues related to infection control and work in close collaboration with the Chief Hospital Epidemiologist, or her designee, at the direction and/or in the absence of the Director.
• Foster a team approach and provide real-time communication, updates and assist in defining, directing, coordinating, and managing department operations.

You have:

• Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of recent experience in an infection control setting.
• 4 years of job related work experience can be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
• A minimum of 2 years of management/leadership experience.
• Certification in Infection Control required.
• Knowledge in epidemiological surveillance, proficient in working with datasets and multiple systems, including: EMR, surveillance databases, tableau, NHSN, patient tracking, and others is essential.
