Under the supervision of the Radiologist, the Radiologic Technologist shall provide radiographic services to patients. The technologist shall operate imaging equipment, prepare radiographic exam rooms, and maintain equipment and supplies. The radiologic technologist's performance and behavior shall be both reflective and supportive of the Mission Statement and Core Values of the hospital. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Adheres to DRMCâ��s Service Standards and ICONâ��s Practice Standards
The radiology technologist's performance and behavior shall be both reflective and supportive of the Mission Statement and Core Values of the hospital.
Rad Tech shall operate imaging equipment, uploading to electronic systems, prepare x-ray exam rooms, maintain equipment & supplies, and Q/A testing
Positions patient under x-ray machine, adjusts immobilization devices, and affixes lead shields to protect unaffected areas.
Transfers patient safely to exam table and provides for patient safety by providing appropriate monitoring/ visualization during exam
Respects patient privacy, provides for adequate body coverage with gown/blankets, and eliminates unnecessary people/ personnel in exam room.
Prepares and maintains records of services rendered within Electronic Medical Record System.
Pulls X-Rays as required for referrals and/or copying.
Performs duties to achieve or exceed established service standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Provides Radiographic Services to the Patient.
Confirms patient identity verbally with two patient identifiers and compares this information to the requisition for exam.
b. Obtains patient history before procedure; accurately documents all relevant information.
c. Provides for patient education, explains procedure to be performed, and reinforces that teaching
as needed during exam, addresses patient concerns. Patient education /communication
alleviates anxiety and facilitates patient cooperation during exam.
Transfers patient safely to exam table and provides for patient safety by providing appropriate
monitoring /visualization during exam.
e. Respects patient privacy, provides for adequate body coverage with gown / blankets, and
eliminates unnecessary people / personnel in exam room.
f. Utilizes, attaches, or adjusts immobilization and pressure reduction surfaces according to both
procedure and patient comfort needs, i.e. splints, casts and bandages.
Minimizes patients radiation exposure, calculates proper voltage, current and exposure time
Demonstrates satisfactory working knowledge in position of patient and equipment; minimize
patientâ��s exposure and provide optimum diagnostic films to include correct marking & annotation
Observes patient during procedure and monitors that patients response to procedure. Reports
any unusual occurrences or changes in patient condition. Utilizes Occurrence Report form to document any unusual occurrence.
j. Promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to Diagnostic Technical Coordinator.
Completes all procedures assigned, coordinating / cooperating with other technologists to
provide for a steady work flow and allowing for lunch / breaks as necessary.
Consistently demonstrates working knowledge and proficiency with equipment use outside of
the Department of Radiology such as portables and portable fluoro that are utilized in exam
m. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
n. Routinely follows policy and procedure when producing and delivering radiographic films.
2. Maintains and follows principles of Radiation Safety.
a. Consistently adheres to film badge policy; turns in badge once per quarter for evaluation and
follows up on cumulative radiologic evaluation results.
b. Consistently follows radiation safety procedures for self and others and following distance
guidelines and low repeat rates.
c. Shields all pediatric/pregnant patients as per policy.
d. Assures pregnancy status of all women between the ages of 13-50.
3. Maintains a safe environment.
Maintains a safe environment for patient care/imaging (restraints, side rails, isolation
precautions, oxygen, monitoring of patient activity).
b. Maintains and verifies proper patient identification.
c. Completes all mandatory programs per hospital policy.
d. Follows policies and procedures regarding Infection Control and Safety.
Reports and documents any unusual patient or administrative occurrence that may have an
effect on the patient's and/or staff's well-being, at the time of occurrence.
4. Maintains Professional Role of the Radiologic Technologist.
a. Provides yearly documentation of licensure and credentials.
Maintains professional association memberships and continuing education requirements
Graduate of an accredited two year school of Radiologic Technology, ARRT Registration, state and fluoroscopy licensure required. Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, physicians, visitors, and other staff members. Current American Heart Association BLS Certification required (maintain current at all times). State of California fluoroscopic permit, exam eligible within 90 days.
