Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is recruiting a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor for the Infectious Disease division. The candidate will participate in the clinical and educational activities of the Internal Medicine Department. Position is primarily clinical and based in Norfolk, Virginia. Faculty member will participate in the education and training of fellows, residents and medical students in inpatient and outpatient settings. EVMS is known for excellence in passionate teaching and clinical medicine.
The EVMS Division of Infectious Diseases is well established and highly respected in the region. The division includes faculty members with infectious diseases and microbiology, Advance Practice Clinicians, and ID fellows-in training. Inpatient consultations are provided at the affiliated 525-bed acute care hospital. This is a level 1 trauma center and is the flagship hospital for all of the regional affiliated hospitals in Hampton Roads. The faculty also staff a diverse outpatient infectious diseases practice including Ryan White sponsored HIV care, Hep C management, outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) and travel medicine. We manage complex tuberculosis patients at the health departments in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. In addition, we care for patients with multi-drug resistant pathogens at Lake Taylor Hospital, a local LTACH and rehabilitation center.
The division members have a major role in the development and teaching of integrated microbiology curriculum for M1 and M2 medical students, and provide classroom and bedside teaching for M3, M4, and pharmacy students and residents. Division faculty are consistently engaged in many other academic activities including IRB-approved research projects and major scholarly contributions to the Infectious Disease literature. Our faculty have contractual relationships with our teaching hospital for infection control, antibiotic stewardship and infusion center operations.
We are seeking a highly qualified individual who is board-certified or board-eligible and has completed an ACGME certified residency program in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Infectious Disease. Virginia Medical license and DEA are required. The successful candidate will have the interest, desire and commitment to building a strong clinical program with educational emphasis.
