Description
Job Summary
Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations within the department and in the nursing units. Supervises the activities and personnel in the Ultrasound Department.
Job Specific Duties
- Collaborates with other departments to coordinate the daily flow of operations. Works as a liaison to work together with radiologists and other modalities as needed.
- Supervises staff, participates in the interview process, coaches and assigns trainer, evaluates technical quality of ultrasound staff, and assists with technical problems.
- Updates leadership on Monthly Operation Report (MOR) and on annual capital budget.
- Performs patient and departmental rounding. Takes immediate action to resolve any staffing issue and works to improve the Service Excellent Index (SEI), patient satisfaction.
- Makes recommendations regarding hiring evaluation, promotion and disciplinary actions for employees.
- Accountable to edit Kronos in a timely and accurate manner. Immediately addresses any issues with tardiness.
- Manages the "On Call" schedule. Ensures adequate Vacation, Holiday, and Sick coverage for area. Conducts performance reviews. Is responsible for keeping policy and procedure manual current.
- Orients and trains all new hires. Ensures that hospital/department rules and regulations are followed.
- Performs all ultrasound examinations. Completes required documentation and ensures that an adequate clinical history is available to correlate with the ultrasound examination.
- Positions and transfers patients. Explains the procedure to patients or patient families.
- Follows hospital patient-identification policy prior to performing examination.
- Promptly upon completion of examination, enters and transmits patient information to PACS.
- Ensures adherence to all state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Oversees equipment purchasing and maintenance.
- Collaborates with radiology leaders, medical staff, and other leaders to foster a service excellence culture that ensures quality service, high quality clinical services, and support.
- Utilizes LEAN principles and tools to improve processes and promote patient safety and clerical excellence.
- Evaluates ultrasound protocols with Radiologists to ensure all protocols are being followed.
- Complies with all standards for safety, risk management, and infection control as required by enforcement agencies.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Amer Regis Diag Med Sonography (ARDMS) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- 4-7 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist
- 3-5 years of experience in pediatric ultrasound technology
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of ultrasound terminology, physiology and human anatomy.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families and co-workers.
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client's need.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, strong time management skills, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Able to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
