The Infection Prevention Specialist coordinates, implements, and evaluates the organization's infection prevention and control program. 

Responsibilities: 

• Collects and performs statistical analysis, interpretation and dissemination of healthcare acquired infection data, including risk assessment, surveillance priorities, and outcomes analysis.

• Monitors local, state, and federal regulations and ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies' standards and requirements.

• Performs and reports surveillance studies using risk stratification and appropriate benchmarking for evaluation of data or ratios. Uses basic statistical techniques to describe data.

• Reviews hospital acquired infections utilizing best practices in identifying root causes and process improvement and then facilitates implementation of solutions to mitigate risk to future patients.

Requirements:

• Prefer RN candidates but will consider non-RN candidates with Masters of Public Health (MPH) and experience in Infection Prevention. 
• BSN/MSN preferred for RN candidates. 
• Needs working knowledge and understanding of microbiology. Must have familiarity with agents that cause disease, and reservoirs, known spectrum of disease. Demonstrated interest in prevention and control.
• Licenses: Current Virginia State RN license required (for RN candidates)
• Certification of Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required within 2 years of hire.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in Clinical Nursing, Public Health Nursing, or Infection Control.
