Northwell Health is a 23-hospital system serving the greater New York metropolitan area. System-wide, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine accessions over 270,000 surgical pathology and over 275,000 cytopathol­ogy cases per year. The department employs 140 pathologists, of whom fifty-five are in the central region subspecialty-based Anatomic Pathology Services unit, and eighty-five serving in practices at the distributed tertiary and community hospital
